Christian Wiese holds the Martin Buber-Chair in Jewish Religious Philosophy at the Goethe University Frankfurt am Main (since 2010). Previously he served as Professor of Jewish History and Director of the Centre for German-Jewish Studies at the University of Sussex. Since 2017 he is the academic speaker of the interdisciplinary research project „Religious Positioning: Modalities and Constellations in Jewish, Christian and Islamic Contexts“, funded by the State of Hessen. He has held visiting appointments at McGill University, Montreal, Dartmouth College, Hanover/NH, Trinity College Dublin and the Herbert D. Katz Center at the University of Pennsylvania. His research focuses on   Jewish intellectual and cultural history, Jewish thought and philosophy, the history of Jewish-Christian relations and the history of antisemitism. Christian Wiese is the Vice-President of the International Franz Rosenzweig Society (since 2014) and the President of the Hermann Cohen Society (since 2018). His numerous publications include „Challenging Colonial Discourse: Jewish Studies and Protestant Theology in Wilhelmine Germany“ (2005) and „The Life and Thought of Hans Jonas: Jewish Dimensions“ (2007).
