CAFE DES SCIENCES
“The Art of aging”
Shira Gottlieb, PhD at Ben Gurion University of the Neguev
Tuesday March 22nd at 7 p.m (Doors opening at 6:45 p.m)
The Third Ear | King George St 48, Tel Aviv

The concept of the event is simple: exploring a scientific topic in a friendly place where science enthusiasts, curious or lay people can discuss popular scientific questions with researchers and academic experts in the field. For the first session of these events, the French Institute of Israel chose to highlight “women in science” and to present the work of several women researchers in their fields of expertise. For the second meeting, the Institute will welcome Shira Gottlieb on at The third ear.

Following her bachelor of science degree in Mathematics and Computer Science and her Master degree in History of Art (both from Ben-Gurion University of the Negev), Shira Gottlieb is currently working as a PhD student in history of art at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev. She recently returned to Israel after a six months’ research stay at the National Institute of Art History (INHA) in Paris, after receiving a Chateaubriand Fellowship from the French Embassy.

Her research deals with two seemingly contradicted notions: old age and modernity, and focuses on representations of old age in French painting from the second half of the nineteenth century.

During her intervention, Shira will discuss the image of the grandmother, and how her familial role, as well as her physical appearance, were portrayed in French visual culture from the nineteenth century.
She will also get back to her background (from exact sciences to art history) and share with us her daily life as a female researcher in art history.

Thank you to The Third Ear for receiving this event.
